Behind the Scenes

 

In August, Runner's World published a beautiful cover story about summer escapes, which we shot at the crack of dawn on Wrightsville Beach and at dusk in Wilmington, NC. North Carolina frequently appears on lists touting dream travel destinations and Runner's World couldn't resist a long run on the beach. We scouted the best vacation spots for jogging (by the water, of course) with the help of Hannah and Jamie. The couple from Wilmington runs half-marathons together and also leads a sweet band, Stray Local.

For our cover shoot, we chose two locations: the Riverwalk in downtown Wilmington, right before the morning hustle and bustle, and Johnny Mercer Pier at Wrightsville Beach, with its cool shadows at sunrise. By the time we wrapped, the salt breeze heightened as the day had turned bright. We took full advantage of our set and jumped straight into the ocean!
