ORANGE COUNTY VISITORS BUREAU

The Orange County Visitors Bureau welcomes people to the area, inviting new explorers to “be comfortable, be adventurous, and most of all, be yourself.” Because that could lead to anything from a nature walk to a UNC basketball game, my recent project with them—via my agency friends at Clean Design—captured the variety of experiences that this part of the state has to offer.

Over three days, I visited 15 locations throughout Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough to support the OCVB’s “Just Do You” campaign. We covered a lot of ground, including restaurants, nature, shopping, and entertainment.

I had a blast working with Clean Design again; Jon (design director) and Susan (art producer) provided a clear vision for the project, along with the support I needed to bring it to life.

My photos from the shoot contributed to a digital & printed “Just Do You” brochure, illustrating sub-categories like “Breathing space” (in the form of a graceful woman practicing yoga) and “Watering hole” (via a group of friends sharing a drink). As someone who has spent a lot of time “just doing me” in these parts of NC, it was a lot of fun for me to discover new places—and revisit old favorites with a new lens.

My favorite part of the shoot was our time at two beautiful local farms in Hillsborough. I love so many things about photographing outdoors: capturing the dynamic phases of natural light, feeling the warm sunshine and the light breeze, finding the moments of interaction between different parts of nature, sharing space with unpredictable cows, seeing the new plants growing inside of a hoop house, and watching the sunrise before we start the workday.
