E.O. WILSON Biodiversity Foundation

– Half the Earth for the Rest of Life –

In 2016, Pulitzer Prize-winning scientist and author Dr. E.O. Wilson made a bold promise: if we can safeguard half of our planet’s landmasses and oceans, we’ll be able to protect most of the species that live here. His conclusion led to the creation of the Half-Earth Project, the main focus of the foundation created in his honor.

The Half-Earth Project team asked us to create key elements of a video project that screened at multiple global environmental events. We filmed a presentation with their CEO, Dr. Paula J. Ehrlich, in their sunny downtown Durham office; we also captured b-roll and edited the final cut. Our small team—including our in-house producer and editor—wore multiple hats, keeping the on-site experience lean and flexible. We also created an abridged version of the video that streamed via YouTube, ABC News, and Hulu.

Dr. Wilson, a preeminent scientist who committed his life to studying and advocating for the natural world, passed away at the end of 2021. His scholarship, teaching, and research have inspired generations of environmentalists to fight for the future of our shared ecosystems. While we didn’t have the opportunity to meet Dr. Wilson in person, we were honored to support Dr. Ehrlich and others who have worked so closely with him. As avid explorers of the natural world, we welcomed the opportunity to channel our skills into storytelling to help preserve the interconnected systems around us.
