VISIT NC // Washington

– Capturing “Firsts that Last” –

Visit North Carolina helps tourists (and residents, too!) discover new places and experiences across the state. To highlight NC’s real-world stories, they dreamed up a documentary film festival called Firsts that Last—inviting submissions from all kinds of adventurers. Then, luckily for us, they needed a campaign to support it!

I’ve shot tourism campaigns across the United States, but working with Visit NC—the leading tourism organization in North Carolina—was a dream project for me. This was a highly coveted project, and I’m proud that our team was able to represent the sense of possibility that our state has to offer.

Directing an extensive video shoot and simultaneously shooting stills, with such a large crew and so many moving pieces, gave us a chance to really flex our creative and practical muscles at the same time! I’m also proud that we shot with an entirely NC-based crew, which gave us an opportunity to nurture local talent and draw on their love for this place as well.

I love highlighting the things that make my home state special: the hidden gems, the natural beauty, the culture of friendliness and hospitality. It’s so meaningful to me to share all of that. On set in Washington, a small coastal town, we focused on the wide range of attractions on offer: historical sites with stories to tell, newer hotspots for shopping and dining, and outdoor adventures with the Tar River as a backdrop.
